Organ transplant evaluations can be extensive (often lasting 4-6 hours) and involve interpreting for several specialists who are part of the transplant team.  Some settings require simultaneous interpreting for orientations where only one or two participants may be limited English proficient (LEP), which require interpreters to be well versed in transplant terminology and this particular interpreting mode.  This presentation will provide interpreters a clear image of what to expect on these appointments so they are better prepared to facilitate clear communication and navigate possible ethical challenges.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to list 6 medical specialists involved in a transplant consultation.
  2. Participants will learn the flow and objectives of a transplant consult by each specialist in the transplant team.
  3. Participants will learn specialized vocabulary often used during transplant consultations.
