Webinar: Palliative Medicine and the Interpreter, Part 2

This 60 minute webinar is open to interpreters of all languages. Interpreting for palliative care is a unique challenge, as it may be a new specialization in many countries, so limited English proficient patients (LEP) may not be as familiar with it. This webinar is a second part in a two-part series, and will be focusing on legal and cultural considerations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will review the concept of palliative medicine in the United States, including laws governing its practice.
2. Attendees will explore the role of culture in palliative medicine, to be better prepare to offer cultural mediation when needed.
3. Attendees will learn about specialized vocabulary used when addressing palliative medicine.

Presenter: Ingrid Oseguera, CMI-Spanish, Board Member of the Utah Translators and Interpreters Association. Ingrid has been an interpreter for the state of Utah during the last 17 years, serving her community as a court, community and medical interpreter. She has taught Bridging the Gap and Community Interpreting as well as Cultural Competence. She holds the Utah court and medical certification.
